You will find a standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder in the Accord Sedan’s LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L models as well as the Accord Coupe’s LX-S, EX, and EX-L trims. For a more powerful ride, pick the Accord sedan in EX-L V6 and Touring trims or the Accord Coupe in EX-L V6 – all of which feature a 3.5-liter V6. Both the four-cylinder and V6 engines feature a drive-by-wire throttle system for smooth acceleration and reactive gear changes. The four-cylinder is direct injection while the V6 has a multi-point fuel injection system. In the Accord Sedan, you will find a standard 6-speed manual gearbox in the LX, Sport, and EX trims; a standard CVT gearbox with Sport Mode in the EX-L, and a 6-speed automatic gearbox with Sport Mode in the EX-L V6 and Touring. The 6-speed automatic transmission only available with the V6 engine in the upper trims, but the CVT (with or without paddle shifters) can be optioned in for the manual on any four-cylinder equipped trim. A remote ignition system is available in Accord Sedan EX models with the CVT transmission as well as in all higher sedan trims and in Accord Coupe models with the CVT or available 6-speed automatic.
The Accord’s four-cylinder engine produces 185 horsepower (189 in the Accord Sedan’s Sport trim) while the V6 produces 278 horsepower. With the four-cylinder and 6-speed manual, the Accord Sedan earns 23 city/43 highway mpg; with the CVT you will get up to 27 city/37 highway; and with the V6 and 6-speed automatic, you will earn 21 city/34 highway mpg*. The Accord coupe earns 26 city/37 highway mpg with the CVT and 21 city/32 highway with the V6 and automatic gearbox**.
